The Internet is not actually an intranet. Although they have many similarities in between, they really are two different networks. Both the Intranet and Internet uses web server of HTTP and TCP/IP protocol as well as features like HTML hypertext links, STMP e-mails and FTP file transfer. But intranet is a private web site of a company or private computer network technology that only can be access by its users. And, people should realize as to avoid confusion again, the name 'intranet' may come from 'internal network', at the same time not to mix up with name 'Internet'.
So the different between intranet from the Internet is obviously its navigation limit. By using protection software like computer firewalls, intranet can only be used or operated by the particular private network or company. While global Internet users are unable to get into intranet, owners or employees who are using Internet on the outside can access into the intranet with a password or any security bypass techniques through their firewalls.
In fact, an intranet does not necessarily require an internet connection. In addition, it is mainly used in business company as intranet allows its owner to get a better and easier control of their company, as well as faster communication and quicker information allocation than the Internet. The biggest advantage that users own having intranet is their ability to save time and money.

Hi there! I am doing some preliminary research on how to SEO a page on our organization's intranet. We have Google Search capabilities (which EVERYONE here uses), but when I search for our department's page, I end up with a slew of unrelated results, instead of our department. So my question - is it possible tag/keyword a page on an intranet site. I apologize if this is an extremely remedial question, I'm just getting started :) Thanks!
