SEO Don'ts Part 2

If you haven't read my SEO Don'ts Part 1, take a step back. Otherwise, lets move on:

Plagiarism is a big "no no".

  • I guess people who are new into building website or blog have heard before the word 'plagiarism'. Copying contents that already exist on the Internet and posting them on your website is definitely an unethical thing to be done. Posting copied contents does not only make your site less interesting and not original, it will also disallow your site from indexing on search engines (penalized by search engines, in other words). If you are not sure about the originality of your articles or felt worry that people will copy yours, consider using a plagiarism detection tool to find out which websites have been duplicating your contents.

Don't make search engine 'spiders' hate your site.
  • First, we need to know what search engine spiders dislike, which are dynamic URLs, JavaScript links, flash objects, cloaking, iframes, redirection and things that causes difficulty for the spiders to collect information. These mistakes, if done will produce a complicated situation in which the spiders find it hard to crawl the particular web page. Now that we've figured out how these spiders behave, we should make our content page links short and friendly enough, and use only classic linking code without framing on any web sites.

No hidden or annoying texts and links please.
  • Hiding text and links by dissolving them in the background using the same color for the sake of a higher keyword density just doesn't make sense. Many would want their page to look good by concealing some texts, but it is better to use some other techniques to produce less disturbing results. Also, some people may load their sites with lots of keywords but this has been an outdated trick and no one should ever pull it again. Doing this will make the page look unnatural and unpleasant for readers.

The bottom line is that search engines are getting better and better, constantly improving day by day. Don't make any silly mistakes and try to stay on the safe side.
