What Is Search Engine And How They Work?

Finding a piece of information inside the World Wide Web (www) is impossible or maybe it was not easy at all, especially with the great expansion of websites day by day and this is where Search Engine comes in handy. It is also known as a web search engine, designed to search through the web for information and any type of files according to the keywords typed in by users. There are also Web Directories, which are mainly operated by human, dividing websites or contents into various categories for easier reference, but obviously they are not as efficient as the search engine.

Search engine brings out such an effective result because they are powered by robots which were used to gather all the information on the web. Web robot has a lot of alternative names like crawler, spider, scutter, indexer, bot, worm and ant where some are used less frequently than the other. Search engine works by searching through the indexed data, which was the information earlier stored by those software or robots.

The results that are shown in a single page using the search engine are all based on the web crawler. This spider will follow and retrieve every single pages on the web and later sort them accordingly, depending on their page value. Next, a user keys in his/her desired search keywords in the search engine and the result will display the most relevant content to the corresponding data. There are so many search engines that exist in the web, each of them has their own unique way to store information and will give different result on searches, some of them also provide another kind of searching purpose as well.
