Understanding Intranet

The Internet is not actually an intranet. Although they have many similarities in between, they really are two different networks. Both the Intranet and Internet uses web server of HTTP and TCP/IP protocol as well as features like HTML hypertext links, STMP e-mails and FTP file transfer. But intranet is a private web site of a company or private computer network technology that only can be access by its users. And, people should realize as to avoid confusion again, the name 'intranet' may come from 'internal network', at the same time not to mix up with name 'Internet'.

So the different between intranet from the Internet is obviously its navigation limit. By using protection software like computer firewalls, intranet can only be used or operated by the particular private network or company. While global Internet users are unable to get into intranet, owners or employees who are using Internet on the outside can access into the intranet with a password or any security bypass techniques through their firewalls.

In fact, an intranet does not necessarily require an internet connection. In addition, it is mainly used in business company as intranet allows its owner to get a better and easier control of their company, as well as faster communication and quicker information allocation than the Internet. The biggest advantage that users own having intranet is their ability to save time and money.

Extranet

Extranet is a part of Intranet but its security or firewall is loosen in order to allow more related people like an organization or company's customers, partners, suppliers and for other businesses reason. Most of the time, extranet uses Internet connection to extend its network to the outside users. General users are still securely controled to have access into extranet and same to the extranet users, they would not be able to access into intranet as well.

The ability to limit the access into an extranet is usually used by sites that required a log-in ID of either free or paid. Unlike intranet, extranet is not tunneled through to provide only its employee to have access rather than "registered members". An extranet uses authentication mechanisms on their log-in page and sometimes a digital certificate is needed to access into the site.

Since extranet security is not as tight as intranet, giving out important information can be a big concern. Maintaining the system can also be a big headache as they may cost a lot. But by setting up an extranet, users can share their product catalogs with their potential customers, easier on exchanging large volumes of data, smoother collaboration on joint development with other companies and provide services or trainings as well as reporting their latest news exclusively.

Search Engine Optimization

There is a reason why each search result that we search using search engines has its own list that has been fixed earlier. To be ranked at a higher position in the search result list or search engine results page (SERP), a process called Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is required. SEO can also help to improve the traffic quality and volume of a web site according their natural search results of search engines. Usually the higher rank a site received, means the earlier and more commonly they can be shown in the search result. Thus, more visitors it will get from the search engine.

In Internet marketing, the use of SEO is a type of strategy to determine how the search engines work and what people are searching for. Generally, optimizing a web site involves editing its HTML coding and contents, where both ways can increase its relevancy to search keywords and get to increasing chances of indexing its site's pages on search engines.

SEO consultant is a professional service that can be hired to perform an optimization on one's website to become more effective on search engines. They don't just edit all the coding inside, the web site's design and development has to be well taken care off too. On the other hand, there are also black hat methods like 'search engine spam' but it is strongly not recommended as it will bring damages to the particular site and sometimes being penalized or punished for a permanent ban from search engines.

Electronic Mail

An electronic mail (e-mail) is way of communication using either a computer or an electronic device to create and send message(s) to other individual(s) over a network. Notes on the messages can be written or entered from a keyboard and then sent to one or more recipients through Internet connection networks. E-mail is a type of speed communication as it only takes seconds or minutes long to arrive at the recipient compared to any regular mail delivery service.

Anyone and everyone in this world can use, send and receive e-mails as long as they own an e-mail address. With each Internet access service subscribed, most of their service provider will give them an e-mail address or else, users can sign up to get it from the public mail services. The most popular free e-mail services that we can get today are Gmail from Google or Yahoo!'s RocketMail, Ymail and Yahoo! Mail.

Each address should have an identifying name or word, followed by an @ sign and end with a domain name. For example, I choose abcd1234 as the name together with a Gmail service which has a domain name of gmail.com at the end, so the address would be abcd1234@gmail.com. In order, to send an e-mail successfully to a particular recipient, their address has to be typed in complete form without any error.
